Initiate Treatment with Venlafaxine

Venlafaxine, nefazodone [Serzone], and mirtazapine [Remeron] may also help with anxiety disorders. Venlafaxine has FDA approval for use in GAD. As with SSRIs, initiation may result in a temporary increase in anxiety; starting at a low dose and titrating up or combining with benzodiazepines, or both, is recommended.
