Initiate Treatment with Antidepressants

Older antidepressants (e.g., TCAs and MAOIs) have also been successfully used to treat anxiety disorders. TCAs are generally effective for PD and GAD; they are less effective for social phobia and specific phobias. Clomipramine has been shown to be effective for OCD; other TCAs are not particularly effective in this condition. MAOIs (tranylcypromine [Parnate] and phenelzine [Nardil]) are effective for the treatment of PD, OCD, social phobia, GAD, and PTSD.
