Most persons with BPD have a comorbid psychiatric disorder, such as an eating, mood, substance-related, dissociative, or anxiety disorder, and are in treatment for this disorder. It is important in such cases to recognize the presence and consider the effect of the borderline traits on the treatment for the respective psychiatric disorder.
