Initiate Treatment with Antidepressants
A number of antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline, trazodone) have sedative properties because of central anticholinergic or antihistaminergic activities. Sedating antidepressants are most useful in the management of patients in whom depression and insomnia coexist but are of limited utility in nondepressed patients because of rapidly developing tolerance to the sedative effects.
