Indolent lymphomas include the follicular and diffuse small cell lymphomas. Involved field radiation therapy (IFXRT) for patients with stage I and nonbulky stage II disease can achieve long-term, disease-free survival and a chance for cure. However, systemic chemotherapy can improve relapse-free survival, and a standard approach for early staged disease has been combination chemotherapy and IFXRT.
