Vitamin E An observational study examining the use of vitamin E in leg cramps in 125 patients (62 patients received ¾ 300 IU and 63 received >= 400 IU/day) revealed that all but two subjects experienced adequate response to this medication. Symptoms of cramps were completely or almost completely controlled in 103 cases (82%). About 50% of the patients responded to daily oral doses of 300 IU of vitamin E or less, while the other half required dosages of 400 IU or more to control their symptoms.
