Behavior therapy should consist of exposure in vivo. Exposure is effective in reducing social anxiety. Therapist-guided exposure is superior to exposure alone. Compliance to exposure instructions between sessions has been shown to be associated with a better outcome at posttreatment and at 6-month follow-up.
